Greatest Hits, Live
Greatest Hits, Live
Right now, the Boston Tea Party is proud to present, the one and only, the Incredible,
FLEETWOOD MAC!
And then the awesome riff to “Oh Well” starts playing. This is how
Fleetwood Mac’s Greatest Hits Live starts. And all of the sudden you’re breathless.
Greatest Hits Live is a 1988 import from Holland; I would actually consider it a
bootleg album. It was recorded in 1970 by the Mac, with the intention of releasing
a live album. But it never saw the light because, before the production was completed,
Peter Green had his nervous breakdown, and quit the band.
Fleetwood Mac is, in my mind, the most interesting band in rock and roll history. They
went from a pure British blues band, in line with its contemporaries, to a California
pop band. During the blues era they were known as Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac; and
they created the best dual guitar sound ever, with Peter Green and Danny Kirwan. And
on this album they showcase mastery; they are jamming here with INTENSITY, and during
this concert they created pure blues-rock as it was never created before, and it has
not been created after. This concert was later released in its entirety on a re-mastered
edition called “Live in Boston”, composed of three volumes. And it is sequentially
released as it was played live. Even though the Greatest Hits Live’s songs are not
listed in the sequence they were played live, I enjoy the sequence here better because
it captures the most intense moments, just check the tracks:
Oh Well
Black Magic Woman (Later made famous by Santana)
World in Harmony
Like it This Way
Only You
Can’t Hold On
Jumpin’ At Shadows
The Green Manalishi (Later made famous by Judas Priest)
Red Hot Mama
Stranger Blues
Highly, Highly recommended.
